Last Week
The club met on Thursday as usual at the Enham Club. The event was Photo in an hour,where members had one hour to go out take some photos and submit 2 JPEG images fora knockout competition. There were some excellent, creative images, and the winner by popular vote was Steve Radford with an image taken at the Railway Station.

On Saturday the club’s exhibition in the Andover Museum was opened by the Mayor of Test Valley. There was a good turnout and the exhibition will run until Saturday 5 October. There is a wide variety of images on show and it is well worth a visit – especially as it is free!

On Sunday the club had a stall in the town centre as part of the Artisan Market. The purpose of this is to make the club visible to the public and attract new members.

Next Week
Next Thursday the club will meet at Enham as usual. There will be presentation by Giles Babbidge entitled ‘Adventure on Your Doorstep’; Discover, explore and capture images just minutes from your front door. Giles is a great storyteller and photographer. There will be a raffle, and members may bring a guest.

Coming Soon
Monday 23 September the Focus Group will meet in the Enham club backroom and this session is a Digital Surgery. Members can bring along any image they need help with or any question about photography or processing that they want answered. Thursday 26 September is the first Bi-Monthly Competition.

Please note that the PDI resolution has changed and images must have a maximum size of 1600 pixels wide and 1200 High.

From 21 September The National Trust will hold an exhibition at Mottisfont entitled ‘Lichfield, Duffy and Donovan: Snapping The Sixties’.

Test Valley Mayor Opens Bi-Annual Exhibition

Excellent Photographic Review displaying local skills

[Andover, Hampshire, Saturday 14th September 2019] Andover Photography Club, established in 1981, thirty eight years ago and thriving was honoured to have the Worshipful the Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Martin Hatley, and Mayoress, Mrs Joanne Hatley, open the Clubs fourth biennial Photography Exhibition at The Museum of the Iron Age. https://www.hampshireculture.org.uk/museum-iron-age

The Photographic Exhibition runs from the 14th September to Saturday 5th October 2019. The Exhibition displays a wide range of high quality print photographs covering landscape, portraiture, street photography, wildlife and abstract.

Cllr Hatley spoke to club members about their work, his own interest in photography, and commented on the high quality of the exhibited images. In particular he praised the sense of an inclusive Andover Community interest based group whose members welcomed all with an interest in photography; from beginner to expert, from camera phone to the latest equipment. The Mayor made special mention of John Randall”s pivotal contribution to the club from its beginnings to the present day.

Steve Govan, Chair of the Club says ‘The aim of the Andover Photographic Club is to provide a friendly, stimulating and inclusive environment to encourage photographers of all levels of ability to enjoy what they do and to support them in acquiring new skills and meeting new friends”.  Andover Photographic Club is a  member of the Southern Counties Photographic League.

Andover Photographic Club supports film and embraces the digital age. Each year”s programme of events includes skill learning sessions in colour, monochrome and digital photography with talks and demonstrations from visiting professionals. Many of their members draw their enjoyment solely from the wide range of speakers and seeing the work of others. For those who wish to submit their work for assessment the Club provides a wide range of club and interclub competitions. The Club runs a programme of practical learning and hands-on sessions. The Club has a regular presence at Andover”s Artisan Market, exhibiting at the Museum of the Iron Age and other community events.

The Club expressed its thanks and gratitude to the Mayor for the Test Valley Borough Council”s generous grant of £1000 and to the National Lottery Community Fund for a grant of £3,500.  These grants have enabled the Club to purchase a new projector, screen and laptop capable of displaying digital images at the high resolution required for competitions.

2018-19 Bi-Monthly League Results

The final round of the Bi-Monthly is now complete. Congratulations to Linda who came first in the advanced and Richard James who came first in the Primary.
